Rabbi Aron Hier - "I Have Never Forgotten You: The Life and Legacy of Simon Wiesenthal" (Film Screening with Introductions by Rabbi Aron Hier)
Wednesday, September 10, 2008 @ 8:00PM in the Carol Grotnes Belk Library, Room 114. Dessert reception following in Room 421 Belk Library
Introduced by Rabbi Aron Hier, director of Campus Outreach for the Simon Wiesenthal Center, this documentary examines the life and legacy of Simon Wiesenthal, the famed Nazi hunter and humanitarian, featuring interviews with longtime associates, government leaders, friends, and family members. Wiesenthal, a secular Jew born in the Ukraine, survived the Holocaust but lost 89 members of his own and his wife's family in the concentration camps. He dedicated more than six decades of his life to tracking down Nazi war criminals. Not only did Wiesenthal succeed in contributing to the prosecution of 1,100 war criminals, he was also one of the first to draw public attention to the camps that held gypsies, homosexuals and many others who suffered under Nazi rule.
Rabbi Aron Hier will lead a question answer session after the film, which will be followed by a dessert reception in Room 421. This event is free and open to the public. Special thanks to Bonnie and Jamie Schaefer!
